Homestay

Home For The Games is a new non-profit initiative to foster generosity and radical hospitality during the 2010 Olympics.  It creates a unique legacy —a memorable Olympic experience for visitors and hosts, while raising money to help fight homelessness. More Than Gold is partnering with Home For The Games to recruit hosts who successfully opened their homes to lots of visitors.

Do you have a room or suite to share during the Games?

The Home for the Games website matches visitors to Vancouver hosts for home-stays or suite rentals. You keep 50% of your rental revenue (or donate it to More Than Gold). The other half benefits charities that fight homelessness in Vancouver.  The homeowner receives a tax receipt for this amount.  The two primary charities are: Covenant House and Street to Home.  The goal is to raise 1.2 million dollars in contributions to local charities that assist Vancouver’s homeless population.

It's a great way to extend hospitality with new friends from around the world. It's also a creative way to help our city's most vulnerable people.

Tuesday, October 20, 2009 - 1:28pm Katie

More Than Gold and Home For The Games want to help locals learn the value and life-changing nature of showing radical hospitality.  Part of our vocation as people of faith is to practice hospitality and to offer an open-handed welcome to others. Rather than five-star entertainment that revolves around social status, radical hospitality is an extension of generosity and kindness – and includes the stranger. The first way that locals can offer radical hospitality is by opening their... Read more
