TheCRY Vancouver
Stanley Park – Saturday, August 15th 2009
TheCry was a remarkable event in Stanley Park that drew over 2000 people from many different spiritual backgrounds to fast, pray and celebrate continuously for nearly 12 hours. With the scenic backdrop of the north-shore mountains the crowd united to shift the whole nation forward into the purposes of God, especially for the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics. It really was a CRY! Great worship teams and passionate exhortations led to fervent prayers both from clusters on the platform and in small groups. The date, August 15th, was the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, a rock concert that opened up the sixties generation to cast off the Judeo/Christian ethic and indulge in hedonism and eastern mysticism. TheCRY declared that the rebellion was over and pleaded with God to raise up a new generation that would live life fully alive, pursuing community purposes that are outside of themselves.
A number of concerns were prayed for that have been adopted by More Than Gold: anti sex trafficking, justice in society, concern for the poor and our witness through the Olympics. Bob Kraemer, the Director of Operations, was surrounded and affirmed by other leaders on the stage as he prayed for the major goals of More Than Gold. There were many highlights – Faytene Kryskow gave a dynamic lead through the day and read a detailed letter of greeting from our Prime Minister. Chief Kenny Blacksmith shared a dream on the release of healing waters and said that there would be a corporate forgiveness next June in Ottawa in response to the Government’s apology. Lou Engle from LA shared several times with great effect. Lou said that we need a culture of prayer, prayer meetings are not enough! He felt that we are on the verge of another outpouring of the Holy Spirit but we need to fast and pray for the breakthrough.
TheCRY was a joyful and focused time, a solemn assembly for a city, nation and generation!
