Premier Campbell Notices the Work of More Than Gold volunteers at Olympics

February 24, 2010

VANCOUVER, Canada – When Dwayne Buhler set out to care for people in the public spaces in and around the Olympics this week, he certainly did not expect B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell to be one of them. Buhler, a “community chaplain” with the More Than Gold network, was walking by the CBC building on Hamilton Street when the Premier came out to chat. Buhler thanked the premier for his leadership in the province. The Premier, in turn, thanked Buhler for the great service that the More Than Gold volunteers have been offering at Skytrain stations, doling out free drinks, smiles and huge helpings of friendliness and caring.

“It was a brief conversation on a quiet street corner,” comments Chaplain Buhler, “and I felt that I was able to encourage Mr. Campbell. In turn I was encouraged that he knew of the work that is being done by the hundreds of volunteers who have given their time to welcome the world.” Buhler adds, to the More Than Gold volunteers and their leaders, “Be of good cheer; your efforts are being noticed by many, many people, including the leader of our province.”
