Teens in the O-zone -- No Drugs but Lots of Joy

Mon. Feb 18, 2010 RICHMOND, Canada -- Fifty inner city teens and ten mentors from around the United States converged on the O-zone (Olympic zone in downtown Vancouver) this morning to experience art promoting drug-free and joy-filled life. The art exhibit visit is part of their weeklong Olympic experience.

"It's been the trip of a lifetime for these underprivileged youth," says Andy Harrington of Youth Unlimited, who is hosting the visit, along with Youth For Christ Canada. The two organizations are working with an American foundation committed to culture, education and drug free sport for teens, and are acting in cooperation with More Than Gold, a network of the Christian faith community in Canada.

The visiting youth have been staying at the "Fridge" youth centre at Fraserview Mennonite Brethren church in Richmond, where they have been celebrating the buzz surrounding the Olympics with church members and the Youth For Christ team.

As well as attending Olympic events, the group has been learning about what life in all fullness means by being around a bunch of committed Christians who are caring for and loving them in every way they possibly can.

"It has been a wonderful time" enthuses Harrington. "Many of these great teens are making good friends with the members of the "Life teams school of urban outreach," who are acting as guides in the fleet of vans that take them to all the events."
